Connecting steps checked against each agent's own documentation on 12 October 2026. Menus change; if a step doesn't match, the agent's own help is the authority.
Connect your own AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and others) and it can do the shopping admin for you: put what you need for a meal on the list, check the catalogues for specials on what you buy, record a receipt's prices, or work out what's in what you eat. It acts as you: it can read and change the lists you're on and lists shared with you, and nothing else. Disconnect it any time in the app: Settings → Connected agents.

| Area | What it can do | Its tools |
|---|---|---|
| Lists | See your lists and what's on them; add things (skipping what's already there), change amounts, notes and shops, take things off. | list_lists, list_items, add_items, update_item, remove_items |
| Ingredients for a meal | Read a meal's ingredients (from a link, a photo, pasted text), work out what to buy in shop amounts (2 tbsp butter is 1 butter), leave out staples and what's already on the list, and add the rest under the meal's name. | list_items, add_items |
| Receipts | Read a receipt you photograph or forward, match each line to what was carted, record the price paid (and specials, with the usual price), add anything charged but not carted, and the total and how it was paid. | recent_trips, record_receipt_line, add_receipt_line, undo_receipt_line, record_receipt_details |
| Specials | Read the supermarkets' catalogues and shops' specials pages, and put what's on special that you'd want (things on the list, your usual buys, a few worth a look) in the list's Specials tray, for anyone to add or set aside. | list_shops, usual_buys, add_specials, list_specials, remove_specials |
| Food | Look up what's in a product (ingredients, nutrition per 100 g and per pack) by barcode or name, and what your household actually buys, to work out a meal's or a day's energy from real products. | find_food, foods_bought |
| Products | Send photos of a pack ShopAbout doesn't know (or has wrong): ShopAbout reads them and adds the product for everyone. Or keep its own reading of a product for your household only. | submit_product |
What a list item, a note or anything it reads says is only ever treated as information about shopping, never as instructions to the agent.
https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp
It opens a ShopAbout page asking for a sign-in code: in the app, Settings → Connected agents → Get a sign-in code, type it in, and tap Allow.Authorization: Bearer <token>. An agent token is like a password: keep it in a password manager or an environment variable, never in a shared file or a web page.Tested so far: Claude, signing in with a browser. The others below follow their makers' documentation; if one doesn't work, email gwalker@tassiecreations.au.
Sign in with a browser. Custom connectors are on every plan (one on the free plan).
Team and Enterprise: an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web; then each person clicks Connect and signs in.
Sign in with a browser:
claude mcp add --transport http shopabout https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp
then /mcp in Claude Code (or claude mcp login shopabout) and sign in. Or with an agent token:
claude mcp add --transport http shopabout https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>"
If Claude Code is signed in to the same Claude account where you added the connector, it may already have ShopAbout; check with claude mcp list so it isn't there twice.
Sign in with a browser only: ChatGPT can't use an agent token. It needs Developer mode, and which plans can use it, and whether it can change things or only read them, varies; see OpenAI's "Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT" help page.
Custom apps are only for personal Google accounts in the US, in English, for people 18 or over. On gemini.google.com: Settings → Connected Apps → Custom apps → Add a custom app, paste the address above, and sign in with a sign-in code from the app. Agent tokens aren't documented for the Gemini app.
Google retired the Gemini CLI for individual users in June 2026. In the Antigravity CLI, add ShopAbout to ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json. To sign in with a browser, give just the address; to use an agent token, add the header:
{
"mcpServers": {
"shopabout": {
"serverUrl": "https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <token>" }
}
}
}
With a Gemini CLI that still works for you (Code Assist or a paid API key):
gemini mcp add --transport http --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>" shopabout https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp
Command Palette → MCP: Add Server, or add to .mcp.json in your workspace. Signing in with a browser:
{ "servers": { "shopabout": { "type": "http", "url": "https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp" } } }
With an agent token, asked for once and kept by VS Code:
{
"inputs": [{ "type": "promptString", "id": "shopabout-token", "description": "ShopAbout agent token", "password": true }],
"servers": {
"shopabout": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:shopabout-token}" }
}
}
}
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Leave out headers to sign in with a browser; with an agent token in the environment variable SHOPABOUT_TOKEN:
{
"mcpServers": {
"shopabout": {
"url": "https://test-api.shopabout.nsignia.au/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:SHOPABOUT_TOKEN}" }
}
}
}
ShopAbout is a standard MCP server (Streamable HTTP) at the address above. It signs in with OAuth 2.1 (automatic client registration and PKCE), or takes an agent token as the header Authorization: Bearer <token>.
Talk to it as you would to someone helping with the shopping. Once ShopAbout is connected (in Claude, turned on for the chat under + → Connectors), it uses ShopAbout's tools by itself. With more than one list, say which ("on the Hardware list").
The list
Ingredients for a meal
Receipts
Specials
Food and products
An agent that can read your email or messages and runs on a schedule (or that you simply ask each time) can take on whole jobs. ShopAbout tells every connected agent how each of these works, so a short request is enough.
Weekly specials. When the Woolworths or Coles catalogue email arrives (or each Tuesday night): read this week's and next week's catalogues for your state, and put in the tray only what's on the list, what you usually buy, and a few close relatives that are clearly cheaper. A chain's catalogue is the same at all its shops in a state, so it's done once for the chain. A shop with its own specials (Salamanca Fresh, Bunnings) is done per shop from its own page, and can be checked daily: the agent sends everything it found for that shop, and what's no longer on special leaves the tray.
Each time a Woolworths or Coles catalogue email arrives, check it for our
ShopAbout list "Tassie home" and put the specials in its Specials tray.
Every morning, check the Salamanca Fresh Huonville specials page and update
that shop's specials. Tell me in a few lines what went in and the saving.
Receipts. After a shop, forward or photograph the receipt; the agent matches each line to what was carted, records the prices (specials with the usual price, so ShopAbout remembers what things normally cost), and flags anything charged that wasn't carted.
Products. When you scan something ShopAbout doesn't know, or its details look wrong, photograph the front, the ingredients and the nutrition panel and send them to your agent. With the photos, ShopAbout reads the pack itself, checks the nutrition adds up, and tells the agent where its own reading differed. It uses one of your monthly label reads, the same as reading a pack in the app. Without photos, the agent's reading is kept for your household only, which is how you keep your own correction.
Meal planning and food. Ask for a week of dinners from what you usually buy, then "put what we need on the list"; or have a diet coach agent use foods_bought and find_food to work out a day's energy from the products you actually eat.
ShopAbout keeps its own rules simple so it works for everyone. Your agent can carry the details that are particular to you: tell it once, and it applies them every time. In Claude, a Project's instructions are a good place (make a Shopping project and chat in it); other agents have a similar place for standing instructions or memory, or you can paste them at the start of a chat.
How we shop (for ShopAbout):
- Our main list is "Tassie home". Hardware goes on "Hardware".
- We buy meat at the Huonville butcher (free range and grass fed). Only on
Sundays, when it's closed, do we buy meat at Woolworths, and then only
free range or grass fed.
- We prefer Western Star butter and San Remo pasta; another brand is fine
if it's at least 20% cheaper per kg.
- Don't put pantry staples (salt, oil, flour, spices) on the list from recipes
unless I ask.
- With specials, only tell me about savings over $1.
